Just got back from seeing Amazing Grace the movie.
Outstanding production! It was powerful, moving and well acted.
It was inspiring how much the world can be changed by a man on a mission from God.
God's plans can't be thwarted.
Check out the movie if you can or rent in when it comes out on video. The web link will search for a local movie theater playing Amazing Grace near you.

Grace like Manna
I was reading Dependence day by Andree Seu in World Magazine. I love her writing style. I love that she is a great writer for a Christian magazine and by day works in the cafe' at Westminster Theological Seminary. She has a little book out too... Perhaps consider this an unashamed plug for this great author. You can find the book on the World Magazine homepage.
The title of today's entry is Grace like Manna which believe it or not has something to do with Andree Seu and her article... As I reading the article I remembered that there was a time when I would lie in bed and pray for enough grace for the day. I sort of needed grace to get out of bed and get going with life because I thought if I stayed in bed it would be easier than life without_____ (I could fill in the blank with many things). So I consistently prayed "Lord, give me just enough grace for today." Then, life started to get a little better and I stopped praying this prayer.
I have found myself floundering a little lately. Worrying about things that are out of my control and things that are very far from today or tomorrow. As if I have any control over what the state of the social security system will be like when I am 78! And don't get me started on my biological clock...
Andree mentioned in her article how the Israelites were dependent on God for daily manna. And you only got enough for the day, there was no success at hoarding for tomorrow. And I remembered my prayer for "just enough grace for today." I saw this lovely relation between grace and manna.
We need only enough grace for today. We can't use today's grace for tomorrow or next week or 40 years from now. God gives us just enough grace for today just like He gave just enough manna to the Israelites in the wilderness to last them one day. You can't hoard grace anymore than you couldn't hoard manna.
I think this is why Jesus says not to worry. Worrying just means you don't believe He is going to provide the grace you will need in the days to come. You just have to trust that if God gave you enough grace to get through today then He will provide enough grace for tomorrow and Tuesday next week and every day of our lives.
I think I will try and resume my prayer for "just enough grace for today" if only to remind myself that He is taking care of me today therefore I shouldn't worry about the days to come because they will come with grace included! I hope that by the time I am 78 I will be very well versed in this truth that God provides - enough grace for today.
