For the sake of space and because I am not sure if I can quote a whole song follow this link and read the lyrics to this song:So Many Men, So Little Time by Miguel Brown then come back to me... I am serious go read the lyrics!
I always thought this was a catchy tune and I am sure I have danced to it at more than one wedding, but I listened to the words in the car the other day and I was shocked.
"They tell me I'm up to no good
I should just settle down
But I don't wanna stay with just one man
So many men - so little time.
How can I lose?"
"How can I lose?" How can she lose? Are you kidding me is this what this song is about? How have I never noticed this message of destruction.
What can she lose?
How about a life free from STDs for one. STDs that can lead to cancer or infertility!
How about gaining the reputation of a slut.
How about having something to give to a husband (other than an STD) when she finally decides to settle down.
Now because of the book I am presently reading I am on edge about these issues and the way Satan and his secular humanistic, hedonistic, narcissistic worldview is infiltrating society ... and I was going to say subtly infiltrating but if you read these lyrics you know there is nothing subtle -it is out right war against humanity and what as actually good for them.
So the question I posed is she selling or buying?
The singer/ the songwriter have they bought into this poisoned life they are living or is the song a platform they are essentially teaching from.
Is the singer covering up for some lack of emotionally connectedness or a nurturing relationship by throwing herself at a new man every night and maybe in 10 years she will see its lead to an empty life.
OR
Is this song trying to teach us young women that it is perfectly acceptable to go ahead and have any amount of guys in your bed you don't even need to know his name. Trying to condition us to accept and believe that such behavior won't have drastic effects on women's physical and emotional health!
Casual se*ual relationships are not natural and yet society is telling us that you can do what you want... never mind that your reckless behavior can kill you.
I mentioned the book I am reading its called Unprotected: A Campus Psychiatrist Reveals How Political Correctness in Her Profession Endangers Every Student (you might want to go check this link out before you keep reading)This book is blowing me away. It is disturbing and I am disturbed by it. I am on edge and angry because this book put real people and statistics and explanations to things I kind of knew about, but didn't have the full story- partly because it didn't effect me! I wish I had someone I could help rescue from these lifestyles of reckless behavior. But let's face it a great majority of people who come to the CWP or Janel's blog or mine are not the women that need to hear this message. I can't help but think that there alot of people out there who come to the CWP who will never come in contact with HPV or have an abortion because you've "been a Christian all your life"... And praise God he has protected us from that!
But then again maybe you have and you'll understand why its important to teach and protect the unprotected- young women.
We need to know what's going on. We need to be fully informed and ready to serve or minister or fight if need be. Sooner or later we are going to come in contact with someone who is "Unprotected" who is dealing the aftereffects of abortion, STDs, infertility because they pursued careers instead or from STDs, or the revelation that their "friends with benefits" relationship had no true benefits. We need to understand them and understand that they may not have "been a Christian their whole life..." in fact that have a warped view of Christianity. But they need love and a listening ear and a mentoring message of hope in a non-judgemental way.
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of reading this book. If you have teenagers, teach teenagers/college age, if you know people or work with people, if you love people, this book has information in it that people need to know. And it will disturb you, it will make you cry, it will make you angry but it will also make you ready to protect and stop the buying and selling when you can.
You probably haven't heard the last from me on Unprotected...
